"I am fascinated by Gil Cortés’ process of transforming memory into choreography, finding the emotion in motion and fusing the two in their shared meaning. This is what she does so well" Nicholas Minns about Here Body in Writing About Dance, 20th January 2016 Full review here
ARTIST STATEMENTThe starting point of my creations is often the need to understand the conflicting ways in which we relate to each other, ourselves and our circumstances.
I use dance as a medium to connect, shake, disturb and show our inner conflicts. With a sense of playfulness, the surreal and absurd in my pieces coexist with a poetic, distorted beauty, while offering layers of sociological and philosophical questions. Art is communication, and therefore the audience is vital to breathe life and meaning to the work. It is only through recognising our shared experiences of humanity that we can have empathy. And it is only through empathy that we can make the world a better place. Neus Gil Cortés |
